The Houma-Thibodaux Metropolitan Planning Organization (HTMPO) is proud to present the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan, a comprehensive initiative dedicated to enhancing transportation safety and accessibility across our HTMPO region (Assumption, Lafourche & Terrebonne parishes). This plan, officially adopted by the HTMPO Policy Committee on October 24, 2024, represents our commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all road users, with particular focus on pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable populations.
Key Objectives
The SS4A Safety Action Plan is built upon data-driven analysis, public engagement, and regional collaboration. Its goals align with HTMPO’s mission to:
- Reduce Traffic Congestion: Improve flow and safety for all users by implementing strategic infrastructure changes.
- Enhance Safety: Prioritize projects that address high-risk areas, especially those affecting non-motorized users.
- Promote Active Transportation: Encourage healthier, more sustainable travel choices by expanding bike lanes, sidewalks, and other active transit options.
- Advance Equity: Focus on underserved communities, providing accessible transportation alternatives in areas with limited motor vehicle access.

- Infrastructure Projects: The plan identifies key projects, including roadway reconfigurations, crosswalk enhancements, and pedestrian refuge islands, designed to reduce traffic incidents and promote safe crossing for all.
- Community Engagement: A cornerstone of the plan’s development, public input was collected through surveys and outreach events to understand local concerns and needs.
- Project Prioritization: Using a comprehensive scoring system, projects were ranked based on safety impact, multimodal benefits, and community priority.
Next Steps
The HTMPO is committed to working with local, regional, and state partners to implement these strategic recommendations. Efforts will focus on securing funding and coordinating with stakeholders to bring the outlined projects to fruition, ensuring safer streets across our region.
