Does your community have abandoned buildings, old gas stations, junk yards or other potentially contaminated property that you would like to see redeveloped? Are you thinking about buying an abandoned property to help it reach its potential?  Are you hesitant to move forward due to concerns over environmental liability and possible cleanup expenses? Redeveloping abandoned, idled, or underutilized real property (a.k.a. a Brownfield site) is both a challenge and an opportunity. Join South Central Planning and Development Commission, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program (TAB) at Kansas State University and the Louisiana Brownfields Association for a FREE 2-day workshop October 5-6, 2022, to fill up your tool box with resources and information to put these sites back into productive use and help spur further economic and community revitalization.

SCPDC Brownfield Coalition Awarded $2 Million in EPA Brownfield Revolving Loan and Grant Funds

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $107 million in supplemental funding to 39 successful, existing Revolving Loan Fund Grant recipients who have demonstrated success in their work to clean up and redevelop brownfield sites.

South Central Planning and Development Commission (SCPDC) has been selected as a recipient to receive $2,000,000 dollars from EPA for its successful South Louisiana Brownfields Coalition RLF Program. Through the award of the RLF supplemental funding, the pursuit of cleanup planning and implementation will continue throughout South Louisiana Brownfields Coalition RLF program’s regional area. The South Louisiana Brownfield Coalition region covers the parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary, Terrebonne, along with its Coalition’s partners regional areas of Acadiana Planning Commission; the City of Lake Charles; and the City of Baton Rouge / Parish of East Baton Rouge. The Program also serves the municipalities within these parishes.

Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Program (LCDBG) FY2023 Program Year Application Workshops

It is time to begin the application planning process for the FY2023 LCDBG Program. The Office of Community Development – Local Government Assistance (OCD-LGA) will discuss the FY2023 LCDBG Funding Distribution as well as the upcoming application process and rating criteria in detail regarding the Public Facilities (PF) Program at the Application Workshops listed below:

In order to expedite the process for the FY2023 Public Facilities Program, local governments may now begin the citizen participation process. The process must be completed prior to the procurement of firms to assist with the application preparation and the tasks associated with application preparation. The current citizen participation and procurement procedures local governments must follow in order to be eligible for funding are located on the Office of Community Developments website at https://www.doa.la.gov/doa/ocd-lga/lcdbg-programs/forms-and-information/.
